Have you ever been at a store or the movie theater and seen a couple Middle Easterners bargaining for cheaper prices? Well, if you haven’t let us explain why Middle Easterners feel entitled to the right of bargaining.

This so called right of a bargain price is an idea that has been accepted in the Middle Eastern community for generations. Middle Easterners practically invented the idea of bargaining back in the days of Mesopotamia.

One of the main reasons why Middle Easterners love to bargain is because they feel they can save money. The mentality is,

“If I can save a few dollars here, then over time, that will accumulate to thousands of dollars over the year.”

Every Middle Eastern has seen this. For example, our parents will have no problem buying a $80,000 BMW or Benz. When it comes to having the car’s oil changed for $120, you will see our parent’s haggle the local dealership to get the oil changed for free.

Sometimes, this bargain induced characteristic can be embarrassing. Every Middle Eastern child has witnessed this. Your dad is about to buy a car. He got the dealer to drop the car by about five thousand dollars, and at the end, he doesn’t buy the car because the dealer would not reduce the price by another $50!

Other examples of this bargain method are when we see Middle Easterners have a Ferrari, but end up living an apartment. Why? The idea of having a Ferrari is thought to be more prestigious than owning a house and also more cost effective. By living in an apartment it is seen as a way of saving money from not buying a house.

See, there is an inherent flaw to this bargain practice ideology. Lots of Middle Eastern youths have seen this. Imagine your house is being reconstructed. The father will find the cheapest plumber for to save money. What ends up happening? In the end, all the supposed copper pipes in your house end up being made out of PBC and rupture due to high water pressure.

At the end, the father ends up paying more money for the repair of all the broken pipes. Had he actually spent the proper amount for the right plumber and proper materials, the overall cost would have been lower.

Another reason why Middle Easterners want to bargain is because of the reason that Middle Easterners expect an immediate form of respect from fellow Middle Easterners. In the business world, we see it constantly. Middle Easterners sometimes want certain services at little cost to almost being free.

There are two sides to this viewpoint:
One angle is that there are those individuals who truly want to help Middle Easterners by giving them bargain prices. Entrepreneurs who do this are typically looking for Middle Easterners and really want to help them succeed. A lot of business associates who give large discounts for products and services do it out of the love and respect they have for their fellow Middle Eastern brethren.

People who typically do this know that in the long run, the respect will be paid; that respect is a constant source of business exchange and friendship without much haggling of prices.

In the end, Middle Easterners will bargain for anything. Whether it is seen as a way to save money or as an inherent right to receive discount prices because one is entitled to it when they are Middle Eastern. In some cases, to help fellow Middle Easterners out, bargaining is an idea that came out of the lands of the Middle East. This philosophy for bargaining during trade changed world economies. With Middle Eastern societies, it is an idea that will never fade away, but remain imbedded in our cultures forever.
